Take your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey to new heights with Lineage BJJ®'s Intermediate/Advanced Adult Jiu-Jitsu Program. This program is designed for dedicated practitioners who are ready to delve deeper into the art and refine their skills with more complex techniques. While these classes are suitable for all levels, they are not recommended as your very first class or during your first few weeks of training, unless approved by an instructor.

From Competence to Mastery: Our core curriculum equips students with essential self-defense skills, but the Intermediate/Advanced class is where true transformation occurs. This program is tailored to develop elite Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, guiding you beyond the basics and into the realm of mastery.
Exploring Advanced Techniques: In these classes, we teach intermediate to advanced techniques, covering sophisticated submissions, escapes, counters, and competitive strategies in both Gi and NoGi. While the focus is on higher-level techniques, we ensure that beginners in the class are not left behind—we offer simpler variations of techniques to accommodate all skill levels.
A Diverse and Dynamic Curriculum
Expansive Training Scope: Our curriculum is comprehensive, encompassing both Gi and NoGi disciplines. We also integrate elements of Judo, wrestling, and striking, including kicks, knees, elbows, and smacks. Additionally, we cover the weapons portion of the Gracie self-defense system and Vale Tudo (no-rules fighting) techniques, all taught safely with an emphasis on control.
Exclusive Curriculum Access: Our advanced curriculum is available through our members-only app, with access to techniques depending on your belt level. For safety reasons, more advanced techniques are only unlocked as you progress in rank. This ensures that each student is learning at an appropriate pace, tailored to their experience level.
Unmatched Team Excellence: Lineage BJJ® is the largest and most successful Jiu-Jitsu team in Southern Maryland, boasting more high-level practitioners and black belts than any other school in the region. This is a significant achievement within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, especially as a direct affiliate to the Gracie family. Our team’s success in competitions is unmatched, with numerous championships in both Gi and NoGi categories.
The Journey to Black Belt: At Lineage BJJ®, earning a black belt is a testament to your dedication, skill, and understanding of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. While the journey typically takes around 10 years, students have the unique opportunity to test directly under Relson Gracie and receive his prestigious diploma, or they can opt to test with Jim Thrift and our black belt instructors to earn the Lineage BJJ® black belt certificate. Either path is a recognition of your mastery within our esteemed community.
Mastering Gracie Self-Defense: Our training includes not only core BJJ techniques but also a comprehensive self-defense system that covers unarmed combat and defense against weapons. We teach techniques to defend against knife attacks, club/stick/baseball bat assaults, as well as weapon retention and gun disarmament—preparing you to handle the most dangerous situations with confidence.
Open Mat Time for Real-World Application
Each class concludes with valuable open mat time, providing opportunities for drilling, sparring, and free rolling. This is where you can apply what you’ve learned in a supportive yet challenging environment, fostering growth, confidence, and camaraderie among peers.
