Founded by Professor Jim Thrift, 5th-degree black belt under Relson Gracie, Navy veteran, and retired U.S. Secret Service gun carrier, the academy delivers authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and practical self-defense for all ages and skill levels.
Day-to-day instruction is led by Coach Kevin Southworth, black belt guiding youth, teen, and adult students. At Lineage BJJ®, you’re not just joining a gym—you’re joining a disciplined, results-driven academy that emphasizes confidence, self-defense, and long-term skill development.
We proudly serve California, Leonardtown, Lexington Park, Hollywood, Solomons, Lusby, and NAS Patuxent River (Pax River), conveniently located off St. Andrews Church Rd near Wildewood, next to Ballet Caliente and less than half a mile south of Harris Teeter.

We offer morning, afternoon, and evening classes Monday through Friday, plus Sunday beginner classes and open mat. Saturday training is also available at our Calvert MMA® location in Sunderland.
Lineage BJJ® closes for federal holidays, scheduled maintenance, and inclement weather—but we offer instructor-led open mats and special sessions whenever possible. This ensures your training continues safely, consistently, and without hidden fees or surprise charges.
