Professor Larry Foster
Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Professor Larry Foster is one of the steady, trusted instructors at Lineage BJJ, known for his calm presence, thoughtful teaching style, and genuine care for his students.
Larry has been part of the Lineage community for many years and brings a quiet confidence to everything he does on the mats. He is patient, approachable, and deeply invested in helping people learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a way that fits their lives—especially adults balancing work, family, and personal goals.
A Coach Adults Feel Comfortable Training With
Larry leads the Tuesday and Thursday daytime classes from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the St. Mary’s County academy. These smaller, focused classes are ideal for professionals, parents, and anyone looking to train during their lunch break.
Being taught by a black belt in a small-group setting allows students to ask questions, move at a comfortable pace, and receive personal attention—something beginners and returning students often value most.
Larry’s classes are welcoming, structured, and efficient. Students leave feeling challenged, accomplished, and refreshed for the rest of their day.
Calm, Clear, and Thoughtful Instruction
Larry’s teaching style reflects who he is as a person: calm, steady, and intentional. He explains techniques clearly, emphasizes fundamentals, and helps students understand not just what to do, but why it works.
There is no rush and no pressure. Whether someone is stepping onto the mats for the first time or returning after time away, Larry meets them where they are and helps them progress at a steady, sustainable pace.
This approach makes his classes especially appealing to adults who may feel unsure about starting martial arts later in life—or who simply want a focused, positive training environment.
Committed to Learning and Growth
Larry is deeply committed to his own continued development as a practitioner and instructor. He trains regularly, studies the art, and works closely with senior instructors within the Lineage team to refine both his technique and his teaching.
From time to time, he also benefits from additional guidance and collaboration with other black belts and instructors across the organization, ensuring that his students receive instruction that is consistent, current, and rooted in the core principles of Lineage Jiu-Jitsu.
That commitment to learning shows up every day on the mats—in how he teaches, how he trains, and how he supports the people around him.
A Lifelong Student of Jiu-Jitsu
Outside of his weekday classes, Larry can often be found training and learning alongside teammates on weekends at the Calvert location. He values consistency, fundamentals, and long-term improvement, and he encourages the same mindset in his students.
Larry leads by example: showing up, staying curious, and continuing to grow.
